چکیده
Conventional proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs) operate within narrow temperature ranges. Typically, they are run at either 80‒90 °C using fully humidified perfluorosulfonic acid membranes, or 140‒180 non-humidified phosphoric (PA)-doped to avoid water condensation-induced PA leaching. However, the ability function over a broader range of and humidity could simplify heat management, thus reducing costs. Here we present PA-doped intrinsically ultramicroporous membranes constructed from rigid, high free volume, Tröger’s base-derived polymers, which allow operation −20 200 °C. Membranes with an average ultramicropore radius 3.3 Å show syphoning effect that allows retention even under highly conditions more than three orders magnitude higher conductivity conventional dense polybenzimidazole membranes. The resulting PEMFCs display 95% peak power density after 150 start-up/shut-down cycles 15 can accomplish 100 cycles, Most designed few tens degrees, but functioning in be advantageous. authors use ultramicroporous, acid-doped cell

Dissolution of Platinum in the Operational Range of Fuel Cells
One of the most important practical issues in low-temperature fuel-cell catalyst degradation is platinum dissolution. According to the literature, it initiates at 0.6-0.9 VRHE, whereas previous time- and potential-resolved inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) experiments, however, revealed dissolution onset at only 1.05 VRHE. In this manuscript, the apparent discrepancy is addr...

متن کاملUltramicroporous Membranes for Hydrogen Separation
Fuel cell systems offer excellent efficiencies when compared to internal combustion engines, which result in reduced fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. One of the areas requiring research for the success of fuel cell technology is the H2 fuel purification to reduce CO, which is a poison to fuel cells. Molecular sieve silica (MSS) membranes have a potential application in this area. ...
متن کاملOxygen Reduction on Gas-Diffusion Electrodes for Phosphoric Acid Fuel Cells by a Potential Decay Method
The reduction of gaseous oxygen on carbon-supported plat inum electrodes has been studied at 150~ with polarization and potential decay measurements. The electrolyte was either 100 weight percent phosphoric acid or that acid with a fluorinated additive, potassium perfluorohexanesulfonate (C6FI3SO3K). The pseudo-Tafel curves of the overpotential vs. log (iiL/(iL -i)) show a two-slope behavior, p...
